Ananda celebrates Charter for Compassion and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc.’s Founder’s Day with Art Every Day Month collages and poems

SigmaGammaRhoshield

Happy Thursday!

Today I am celebrating my sorority Sigma Gamma Rho’s Founder’s Day (established in 1922 – www.sgrho1922.org) and the Charter for Compassion (http://charterforcompassion.org or http://twitter.com/thecharter).  When I joined Sigma in 1983, I learned firsthand that in order to practice its motto of “Greater Service, Greater Progress,” I needed to have compassion in my heart.  That’s why I am so excited about the Charter for Compassion.  It is a reminder to give myself compassion so that I can share it with others through service.

My Art Every Day Month adventures this week have centered on collages and poems about compassion.  Check out the video below which features my two collages.  You can also hear me read two compassion poems.  Enjoy!

Peace, Creativity, Compassion, and Service,

Ananda

Shayne penned T.D. Jakes: America’s New Preacher (2007) and Holy Mavericks: Evangelical Innovators and the Spiritual Marketplace (2009).   I read T.D. Jakes: America’s New Preacher earlier this year and fell in love with it.   Shayne’s book influenced my new book, That Which Awakens Me.  I even quoted from his book in my memoir!   Yeah it was that GOOD!  I also wrote a review about T.D. Jakes: America’s New Preacher and interviewed Shayne on BAP Living Radio in February.   We had big FUN!  Click here to read my review:  http://kiamshacom.blogspot.com/2009/02/book-review-td-jakes-americas-new.html.   To learn more about Shayne, visit www.tulane.edu/sociol/slee.pdf.

Art Every Day Month Post for the Weekend – A’s Comfy Chair

AEDM-Acomfychair, originally uploaded by anandaleeke.

Happy Weekend!

This weekend I wanna sit in a comfy chair, drink some ginger and green tea, and read my Yoga Journal magazine, chapter 7 of The Joy Diet, parts of Junot Diaz’s Oscar Wao, and my friend’s manuscript. My collage ” A’s Comfy Chair” is a perfect weekend affirmation for me. I made the collage earlier this week during one of my Art Every Day Month journal moments.

How are you planning to spend the weekend?

Make art every day!

Peace and Creativity,

Ananda

Happy Friday!

Today I posted one of the collages I made earlier this week for Art Every Day Month – http://creativeeveryday.com/creativeeveryday/2009/11/art-every-day-month-check-in-november-6th.html.  My collage is called,

“The Business of Being You: A woman owning who she is/A woman blogging who she is/A woman becoming an entrepreneur who leads her life/ A woman designing her own destiny.”

Long title…. right? I had a lot to say. It will turn into an essay or poem later on. This collage really speaks to many of the creative ideas I have been having today about the 2010 focus of my Sisterhood, the Blog and next book, Sisterhood, the Blog: Soundbytes from the 21st Century’s Women’s Online Revolution (Summer 2010). It is an affirmation of what’s coming next in my creative life. It is exciting to feel the new energy as I move into the new year a few weeks early.

What are you giving birth to?

Make art every day!

Peace and Creativity,

Ananda

Ananda’s Weekly Adventure with the Next Chapter Book Blogging Group – PLAY, Chapter 7 of The Joy Diet by Martha Beck

BOLD by Ananda Leeke – Copyright 2009 by Madelyn C. Leeke.

AEDM-Bold, originally uploaded by anandaleeke.

Happy Friday!

My Next Chapter Book Blogging Group is reading Chapter 7 of The Joy Diet by Martha Beck this week. The theme is play. Click here to see what my fellow Next Chapter bloggers are experiencing: http://tnc-thejoydiet.blogspot.com/2009/11/joy-diet-play.html.  I am still reading the play chapter.  So far I have been exploring what play means in the collages I made for Art Every Day Month (http://creativeeveryday.com/art-every-day-month).  Art Every Day Month is an annual creative challenge created by Leah Piken Kolidas (held in November like National Novel Writing Month).

Today I discovered that play means being BOLD. Here’s my definition of BOLD.

B stands for BE who you are.

O stands for OWN who you are.

L stands for LOVE who you are.

D stands for DECIDE to do these things every day!

It takes boldness to add PLAY to my daily life because it is so easy to get caught up in my to do lists.

What does play mean to you?

Enjoy your weekend!

Peace and Creativity,

Ananda

Art Every Day Month Post – Celebrating the Dream: Michelle O 2009

Happy Thursday!

I am still celebrating the Obama election anniverary today. I posted a collage that celebrates First Lady Michelle Obama a/k/a FLOTUS. She is an amazing woman. For me, Michelle is an icon of authenticity. She inspires me to continue taking better care of myself. I love her brilliance, boldness, and beauty. She is committed to community service too. Her fashion style is fabulous. In short, Michelle O is a woman who owns her spirit, heart, mind, body, and life.

What do you think about Michelle O?

Who inspires you?

Make art every day!

Peace and Creativity,

Ananda
