Poetry Month Day #23: “Path” Poem

image

Happy Day #23 of National Poetry Month!

Today’s poem is entitled “Path.” It was inspired by Deepak Chopra’s wisdom quote above.

Path

Life carries me as I carry it.
I walk a path where change is constant.
Sometimes it gets messy, overwhelming, and scary.
Moments appear and offer learning opportunities that stretch me beyond my wildest imagination.
I go within to a place where I can surrender and gain guidance.
I come back to the world with greater faith and confidence.
With grace and gratitude I allow my path to unfold.

Poetry Month Day #22: “Intuition” Poem

image

Happy Day #22 of National Poetry Month!

“Intuition” is the name of today’s poem.

“Intuition

My inner voice longs to share wisdom and guidance.
She waits patiently for me to get quiet and listen.
When I do, my life flows in divine order.
All is well.
I just have to remember to surrender.
Be still.
Open my spirit, heart, mind, eyes, and ears
Pay close attention.
And follow her direction.

#InternetGeek Tuesday: #InternetGeekat50 Lesson 7 PASSION

image

Happy #InternetGeek Tuesday!

PASSION is #InternetGeekat50 Lesson 7. Nearly 30 years ago, I entered the digital world as a first year student at Howard University School of Law and fell head over heels in love with information from articles, books, case law, journals, and magazines included in the LexisNexis database. My passion for online information gave birth to a bigger passion that now includes a digital communications career and several projects that focus on building and celebrating community, creating and curating content, and inspiring others to use their online presence to express their digital citizenship. Thanks to the White House Office of Digital Strategy, I’ll be able to express my digital citizenship and passion for all things POTUS and FLOTUS Obama during the Spring Garden Tour Social on April 25. Be sure to follow my adventures on Saturday, April 25 via Instagram and Twitter

How do you express your passion in the digital world?

Poetry Month Day #21: “Play” Poem

Happy Day #21 of National Poetry Month!

“Play” is the title of today’s poem. It is inspired by an affirmation I read on author Louise Hay’s Facebook page.

image

Play

Go on and be the joy that dances inside
Dress up in your favorite colors.
Enter the world seeking adventure.
Eat your favorite foods.
Watch your favorite movies.
Laugh so loud that everyone can hear.

Close your eyes and stretch out your hands.
Expect to receive the beauty that blossoms with faith when you believe.
Grab hold of the moment.
Allow your heart to hug it deeply.

Populate the earth with your smile.
Give everyone the gift of hearing your song.
Go on and sing the joy that brings happiness to your eyes.
Play with love.
Play with gratitude.
Play with silliness.
Play with freedom.
Play with an heart open.
Live from who you are from start to finish.
Play.
Play.
Play.
Be authentic.

#YogaMonday: #Yogaat50 Lesson 7 FOCUS

image

Happy #YogaMonday!

FOCUS is #Yogaat50 Lesson 7. For 20 years, yoga has offered me an opportunity to focus my breath, gaze, spirit, and energy so that they move as one when I practice poses, meditation, and Reiki. When I leave my yoga mat and move into the world, it has given me breathing and stretching tools to navigate emotions, experiences and interactions with others. What has yoga helped you focused on?

Poetry Month Day #20: “Yes” Poem

image

Happy Day #20 of National Poetry Month!

Today’s poem is entitled “Yes.” It was inspired by a free Introduction to Illustrator (Adobe) software class I took today at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library.

image

image

The instructor Troy Bent made several statements during the class that reminded me why it’s important to say YES to experiences and opportunities that push me out of my comfort zone and require me to step up and learn new things, make changes, go to new places, meet new people, and work with clients on projects that look and feel bigger than what I’m used to.

image

Yes

They come everyday,
Knocking at my door,
Whispering in my ear.
Experiences and opportunities longing for my participation.
Which ones should I choose?
I dwell in a state of endless contemplation with no decision made.
I weigh my options as the day passes into another.
A week comes and goes.
One month ends and another begins.
Before long a new year presents itself.
I can no longer hear the knock of opportunity or the whispers of experiences waiting to happen.
So I sit in silence.
Day transitions to night.
My mind becomes quiet.
Divine wisdom inserts herself and counsels me to invite the knock and the whispers.
I say “Yes” and a whole new world opens before me.

Poetry Month Day #19: “Discover” Poem

Happy Day #19 of National Poetry Month!

“Discover” is the title of today’s poem. It was inspired by a Friday evening walk I took with a friend in Columbia Heights. During the walk, we discovered a large sculpture that celebrated the life and work of Jamaican political leader, journalist, and publisher Marcus Garvey.

Discover

Walk the earth with fresh eyes.
Approach each day as a new beginning.
Recognize you know nothing.
Live with curiosity.
Discover miracles and blessings you’ve never seen.

Poetry Month Day 18: “Communion” Poem

Happy Day #18 of National Poetry Month!

“Communion” is the title of today’s poem. It was inspired by a mindful meditation and walk trip I took with my church, Unity of Washington, DC  to the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in Emmitsburg, Maryland this morning.

image

During the walk, I stopped and sat by a reflecting pool. As I sat in the stillness, the word communion kept repeating itself in my mind. It stayed with me for the rest of the day. My poem below is the end result. Enjoy!

image

Communion

Dwelling in the sacred place of the Most High,
I willingly enter into communion with my higher self.

Together we celebrate the April new moon that dances in the fire energy of Aries and prepares the way for new beginnings.

We surrender the past and breathe in the present as we embrace the future.

Our heart rejoices in song.

I am so blessed.
I am so blessed.
I am so grateful for all I AM.

We sing it until we rest in the silence
Allowing the vibration of each word to permeate the core of our being.
